Dr. Blake Ryall

Dr. Blake Ryall joined the music faculty of Mississippi State University in Fall 2020 as Lecturer of Tuba and Euphonium. His current duties include teaching applied tuba and euphonium lessons, conducting the tuba and euphonium ensemble, and performing in the MSU faculty brass quintet.

Prior to joining the faculty of MSU, Dr. Ryall served as the principal tuba of the West Valley Symphony of Surprise, Arizona. During this time, he also performed regularly with several other ensembles in the Greater Phoenix area including the Phoenix Symphony, the Symphony of the Southwest, the MusicaNova Orchestra, the Phoenix Brass Collective, and the Salt River Brass. In addition to performing, Dr. Ryall is an avid music educator. During his studies at Arizona State University, Dr. Ryall maintained a private studio, conducted masterclasses at the high school and university level, and presented at the 2019 Arizona Music Educators Conference.

Dr. Ryall has competed in multiple international competitions including the 2019 International Tuba Euphonium Association's Artist Tuba competition as well as the 2019 and 2020 Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival's Artist Tuba competition. Beyond performing and teaching, Dr. Ryall has composed and premiered several original compositions. His works have been featured in recitals at East Carolina University, Arizona State University, and Boston University.

Dr. Ryall received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University, the Master of Music degree from East Carolina University, and the Bachelor of Music degree from Appalachian State University. His primary teachers include Dr. Christopher Blaha, Tom McCaslin, and Dr. Deanna Swoboda.
