Lana Johns is Professor of Flute at Mississippi State University. She holds degrees in flute performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Florida State University. As a solo recitalist and chamber musician she has concertized in South America, Europe, Canada and throughout the United States, including artist residencies at the Prague Conservatory and performances at the Frankfurt Hochschule für Musik, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall.

Dr. Johns has performed at National Flute Association National Conventions, is a frequent presenter at both regional and national College Music Society Conferences and has published articles in Flute Talk and Contemporary Composers. A specialist in contemporary Czech repertoire for flute, Dr. Johns' CD "Twentieth Century Czech Music for Flute and Piano" was released by Centaur Records in June 2007. Among Dr. Johns' collaborative partners are colleagues Jackie Edwards-Henry, piano and Robert Damm, percussion. Dr. Johns has also served on the board of the Mississippi Music Teachers Association and has been on the Mississippi Arts Commission Artist Roster. Her teachers include Geoffrey Gilbert, Peter Lloyd, and Charles DeLaney.
