Premières at the MSU Student Composers Concert

MSU Student Composers Concert

New music dominated at the Student Composers Concert  held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, in the MSU Department of Music Lecture-Recital Hall. Six works, composed by five Music Theory IV class members, appeared on the program.

Reminiscence, by Savery Goodwin, was interpreted by oboist Madeleine Lee.

From Where the Sun Sets, by Wade Parker, featured flutist Shelby Werneth and pianist Kindal Gammill.

The Chase, by Ethan Maness, was composed for a brass trio that included Asher Roe and Brian Mayfield, trumpets, plus Savery Goodwin, tuba.

Arid Adventure, by Darry Clark II, written for saxophone quartet, was realized by Dawson Jenkins, Joshua Holmes, Clay Tyson, and Darry Clark.

Hymn for the Northern Waters, by Bryan Nguyen, was performed by the MSU Trumpet Consort, which included Asher Roe, Lillian Patriquin, Ashton Stanley, Dr. Anthony Kirkland, and John Stewart on trumpet, as well as Jennifer Kerry, Nathaniel Possel, and Alexander Castellano on flugelhorn, all conducted by the composer.

A Cloud in Trousers, by Wade Parker, completed the program, and it featured hornists Luke Deaton, Andrea Mason, Ashlyn Hall, Olivia Dickerson, Addy Hulen, Alyssa Laughlin, and Ethan Seaney.
