Dr. James Sobaskie

Mississippi State University music theory professor James Sobaskie gave two invited lectures at the Louisiana State University’s School of Music. On October 27, 2022, Dr. Sobaskie addressed the School of Music’s graduate musicology seminar, “Franz Schubert: Inside, Out,” providing a research presentation called “The Social and the Sacred: Schubert’s Waltzes and Church Music.” On the following day, he spoke at the School’s Music Forum, offering another research presentation for graduate students entitled  “Gabriel Fauré’s First ‘French Scherzo’ and its Symbolist Aesthetic.”

While on the Baton Rouge campus, Dr. Sobaskie attended music classes, exchanging ideas with students and faculty. Dr. Sobaskie’s visit was authorized by the MSU Department of Music and enabled by Theory Area colleagues Dr. Courtney Grant and Dr. Rosângela Sebba.
