The State Finals is a two-tiered competition which begins at the regional round under the auspice of GTMF - Golden Traingle Music Forum. Students who receive SUPERIOR in a number of exams' categories (duets, solo performance, theory/ear training and sight reading) advance to the State Finals, where they compete with all students in the state who also received SUPERIOR in their region. State Finals are coordinated by MMTA - Mississippi Music Teachers Association, which is the state branch of the MTNA - Music Teachers National Association, the most successful and prestigious national music association which provides support and guidance to teachers and competitions to students.
State Final Competition was at Hinds Community College, Raymond-MS on May 19, 2018. The purpose of the MTNA/MMTA/GTMF competitions is to provide educational experiences for students and teachers and to recognize exceptionally talented young artists and their teachers in their pursuit of musical excellence. The state competitions are considered the primary educational level showcasing outstanding performance and honoring significant pedagogical achievement. Competitions include Composition, Brass, Piano, String, Voice, Woodwind and Chamber Music/Duets.
