An Evening of World Drumming in Tupelo

Dr. Bob Damm and Mr. Ricky Burkhead will perform a program of solo and duo repertoire featuring world percussion music this Saturday, August 27.  The concert, beginning at 7:30 P.M., will presented at the Link Centre located on 1800 W. Main Street in Tupelo, MS. 

Burkhead and Damm have performed throughout Mississippi as a world drumming duo since 2009.  The repertoire for this program will include music for congas, jembes, frame drums, snare drum, doumbec, cajon, xylophone, steel drum, and kalimba. 

Ricky Burkhead is the Director of percussion studies at the University of Mississippi, where he has been on faculty since 1994.  His teaching responsibilities include applied percussion, percussion ensemble, and steel drum/salsa band. He has performed with the Memphis, Tupelo, Corinth, and Delta Symphonies.

Robert Damm is Director of Music Education Partnerships at Mississippi State University, where he has been on faculty since 1995.  His current teaching responsibilities include African American Music, Recreational Drum Circles, and Planning & Managing Learning in Music Education.  He has studied music and dance in Cuba, Ghana, and Mali.
