Black History Month program at Church Hill

Dr. Bob and Mrs. Tara Lowrey, Music Teacher at Church Hill Elementary School in West Point, presented programs for first and second graders on February 29th.  This Black History Month program recognized African Musical Heritage.  The program included The Distant Talking Drum (Poem from Nigeria and percussion ensemble), Fanga Alafia (Song and dance), Kye Kye Kule (Chant and exercise game from Ghana), Balafon (Xylophone ensemble from Zimbabwe), Toodle-loo! Toodle-lei! (Udu and chanting from Nigeria), Anansi and the Secret Name (Folktale from ghana), Get Down and Play the Drum (Drum ensemble) and Jambo Bwana (Song from Kenya).  Dr. Bob and Mrs. Lowrey rehearsed with selected first and second grade classes for six weeks in preparation for the program.
