Wednesday, February 18, 2015

Dr. Bob led a drum circle program at Eiland Middle School on February 18th in recognition of Black History Month.  Selected students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade participated in the music event.  The students sang songs and played drums and percussion instruments.  Dr. Bob led the children in various in-the-moment improvisations organized around foundational patterns such as steady beat, swing, samba, clave, kuku, and heartbeat.  Dr. Bob provided cultural information about African music in response to questions posed by students throughout the event.  The program was arranged by Eiland School librarian, Jennifer Vowell.
