Dr. Bob led a drum circle program at Nanih Waiya School in Louisville on February 17th in recognition of Black History Month.  Selected students from 8th grade social studies/history classes participated in the music event.  The students sang songs and played drums and percussion instruments.  Dr. Bob led the students in various in-the-moment improvisations organized around foundational patterns such as steady beat, swing, samba, clave, kuku, and heartbeat.  Dr. Bob provided cultural information about African music in response to questions posed by students throughout the event.  The program was arranged by Jennifer Vowell, staff member of the Louisville School District in cooperation with social studies teacher Amy Miller.
