James William Sobaskie contributed a chapter to the new book, Rethinking Schubert, published by Oxford University Press.  Originating as a research presentation given at the National University of Ireland in Maynooth, with support from the MSU Department of Music, Dr. Sobaskie’s essay is titled “Contextual Processes in Schubert’s Late Sacred Music.”  This research illuminates seven choral works, written during the last two years of the composer’s life, that reveal his pursuits of structural innovation and expression of the idea of transcendence.  For more information, visit the book’s website.
