Drum Circle for Camp Tik-A-Witha

Dr. Bob facilitated a drum circle for children attending the Camp Tik-A-Witha Elizabeth Gwin Session on July 21.  The Elizabeth Gwin Session is designed for special needs children to experience all of the amenities of the camp.  Girls and Boys ages 6 – 21 who have special needs are welcome to apply to this six day residential camp program held at Camp Tik-A-Witha.  Enriching activities include games, swimming, canoeing, fishing, hiking, crafts, outdoor cooking and skills, horseback riding, and music.  All activities are adapted to meet individual camper’s needs and are designed to help individuals grow, be creative and have fun. 

Approximately 40 campers and 50 counselors participated in the drum circle.  Dr. Bob was invited by Cindy Burks to provide the drum circle.  Dr. Bob has previously provided numerous drum circles for special needs children and adults throughout MS as well as music programs for Girl Scouts of Northeast Mississippi.  Elizabeth Gwin was responsible for procuring the land in Van Fleet, MS to create Camp Tik-A-Witha in 1970 for Northeast Mississippi Girl Scouts.  She was awarded the Girl Scouts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005 and the Thanks Badge II in 2008.  Elizabeth Gwin died in 2014.
