International Fiesta 2018

Tuesday, April 10, 2018

The International Fiesta, sponsored by the World Neighbors Association and the MSU Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, took place on the MSU drill field on April 7th.  The annual fiesta is a day filled with traditional clothing, cultural displays, music, dance, and cuisine from around the world.  Jembe Den, an African percussion ensemble comprised of Dr. Bob’s students, led the parade of flags of the world and played four pieces (Fanga, Kuku, Tiriba, and Kakilambe) as part of the opening ceremony.  Baba Asante Nalls and Lisa Dunn, his djembe apprentice and partner in Mississippi Djembe, were special guests in the Jembe Den performance.  Dr. Bob was honored as the 2018 INTERNATIONAL FIESTA HERO for his “many years of performances at the International Fiesta.”
