The choral anthem, Isaiah 11:1-9, composed by David Hurd, will be performed on February 22, at 7:30 p.m., at the Reflect and Rejoice Concert. The commissioned piece was generously funded by the Criss Foundation in honor of Dr. Anita George and her life’s work with race reconciliation in Mississippi and at the church-wide level of the Episcopal Church. Dr. David Hurd is a New York based concert organist and composer who received the 2010 Distinguished Composer Award of the American Guild of Organists. His hymn compositions and service music can be found in denominational hymnals. All are invited to attend this concert as a part of Black History Month and will include other choral pieces performed by MSU choirs. The concert is free of charge and will be held at First Baptist Church in Starkville.
