MSU Music Theory Upper Division Proficiency Examination Information

Following longstanding tradition, the MSU Department of Music will offer the written theory and aural dictation tests of the Upper Division Proficiency Examination in Music Theory on Monday, August 16, 2021, starting at 8:30 a.m., in Music Building C. The Musicianship Skills test component of the Music Theory UDPE will be administered online via Webex appointment. Students who wish to take this portion of the Theory UDPE should contact Dr. Sobaskie at email@example.com to make an appointment for this 15-minute test.
Incoming transfer students who have successfully completed at least three (3) semesters of music theory and ear training courses, and current MSU music majors who have successfully completed at least three semesters of music theory and ear training courses but have not yet passed both halves of the Music Theory UDPE, are eligible to take these tests. Downloadable documents concerning the Music Theory Upper Division Proficiency Examination are available at this website: //www.music.msstate.edu/areas/theory/theory/. The MSU Music Theory Upper Division Proficiency Examination Musicianship Skills Materials document found there contains musical materials that should be practiced in the time before the tests are administered.
THERE WILL BE NO MAKEUPS FOR THESE MSU MUSIC THEORY UDPE COMPONENT TESTS AND THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THEM WILL BE IN DECEMBER 2021.
