Dr. Bob, who serves as Co-Chair of the Percussive Arts Society Interactive Drumming Committee, presented an interactive drumming clinic at the 2019 international convention in Indianapolis.  The session, entitled “A Minimalist Approach,” focused on building community.  Dr. Bob also moderated a panel discussion with Kalani Das, Sule Greg Wilson, and John Yost.  The panelists discussed various types of interactive drumming (e.g. drum circles, facilitated drum circles, drum ensembles, and drum classes) and how, or if, these different modes of drumming might be integrated.  Dr. Bob’s Spring 2019 sabbatical allowed him to study and practice the djembe.  During this time he took lessons with Michael Taylor.  Dr. Bob joined a drum ensemble led by Michael Taylor and Matthew Henry for a clinic at PASIC entitled “Speaking the Language of Djembe.”  PASIC is one of the largest drum and percussion events in the world, featuring over 120 concerts, clinics, workshops, panels, and presentations.
