State Singers, Wind Ensemble to Conduct Regional Performance Tours

Friday, October 4, 2019

The week of October 7th will bring a much-anticipated Fall Break to campus, but for members of the MSU Wind Ensemble and State Singers, it will be as busy as ever. Both groups will conduct performance tours of the region to expose prospective students to the quality ensembles available at Mississippi State.

The Wind Ensemble tour will be Tuesday, October 8th and will include stops at Northeast Mississippi Community College, Muscle Shoals High School (AL), and Tupelo High School. The Singers tour will be in the Golden Triangle and Memphis areas from Wednesday, October 9th through Friday, October 11th.  Over the course of the three days, they will perform at Starkville, Columbus, and New Albany High Schools (Wednesday); Olive Branch, Hernando, DeSoto Central, and Southaven High Schools (Thursday); and The University of Memphis (Friday).

Two public concerts are also scheduled for the Singers tour: Maples Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 10th at 6:30 pm and Germantown United Methodist Church on Friday, October 11th at 6:30 pm.  Both of these will be joint concerts with area high school choirs.

“We are delighted to be able to continue a long-standing tradition of sharing our MSU musical ensembles with the region in these off-campus performances,” said Elva Kaye Lance, Director of Bands.  “These tours allow us the opportunity to showcase our programs in a slightly different way to audiences of community college and high school students, as well as family and friends. Hopefully, many of the students who hear the band and the choir will one day come join our ensembles here at MSU.”

“We are always grateful to the teachers who are generous with their rehearsal time and allow us to interact with and perform for their students.”
