Since 1969, the Starkville-MSU Symphony has provided the greater Starkville area and the Golden Triangle with a true community grown experience of classical music. With the goal of introducing this vibrant genre to an audience reflecting the entire Starkville community, every concert has remained free and open to the public throughout the Symphony's entire 50-year history.

The Starkville/Mississippi State University Symphony Orchestra is presenting its annual “Jazz at Renasant” evening concert at the city’s Renasant Bank Plaza. Seating is limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to lawn chairs and blankets, patrons are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy during the twilight performance. Musicians include MSU Associate Professors of Music Cliff Taylor, Richard Human, on trombone; Tony Kirkland, trumpet; Sheri Falcone, saxophone; Jason Baker, drums and guest musicians Doug Thomas, saxophone; Cass Patrick, guitar; and Rick Montalto, bass. Music selections include various jazz standards in swing, Latin and ballad styles, by jazz composers Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, and bossa nova works by Tom Jobim.
