Trumpet Consort

The MSU Trumpet Consort is a trumpet ensemble that performs at departmental and community events, as well as at regional music conferences. The ensemble, which meets weekly for rehearsals, performs a concert each semester in conjunction with the other brass ensembles at MSU.

The Consort typically performs a welcoming at the department’s annual Music Discovery Day each November for visiting students who are considering careers in music. The ensemble has also performed at numerous times at The Trumpet Festival of the Southeast. Most recently the group performed at the festivals in Rome, Georgia, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Consort’s repertoire consists of contemporary compositions and arrangements of classics for trumpet ensembles ranging in size from three to twelve players. For more information about the ensemble, please contact Dr. Anthony Kirkland,

The MSU Trombone Troupe is a chamber ensemble that explores the rich tradition of trombone choir history and literature while also performing new works by established and student composers. The ensemble is open to all MSU students and Starkville community members.

Weekly rehearsals are focused on ensemble technique, musical artistry and developing individual performance skills in the context of a chamber music ensemble. We employ rotating chairs so that all members have the opportunity to play a variety of parts, from bass to alto. For more information on joining the ensemble or scheduling a performance, please contact Dr. Richard Human,
