Dr. Sobaskie Presented Music Research in Poland

Music Theory professor James Sobaskie represented Mississippi State University at an international conference organized by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, Poland, called “Romanticism in Music: Poland in its European Context.”

Dr. Sobaskie’s lecture, “Evolution of the Nocturne: Gabriel Fauré’s Opus 36,” given on Thursday, October 19, 2023, demonstrated how the French composer honored the legacy of Fryderyk Chopin’s nocturnes for piano with his own Nocturne in 1884. Dr. Sobaskie’s presentation was enabled by support from the Mississippi State’s College of Education, as well as its Department of Music, and it contributes to the institution’s mission as a Carnegie Foundation-classified “Very High Research Activity” university.
