Julia Stowell

Dr. Julia Stowell is Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Mississippi State University. As an international soloist, she has performed with the Mantzaros Philharmonic in Corfu, Greece, at the International Women's Brass Conference, and at the International Trumpet Guild Conference. Upcoming international appearances include performances at the Brescia Trumpet Festival, as well as a research presentation at the Altenburg International Trumpet Competition in Bad Säckingen, Germany in November, 2026. 

​​She is also a founding Co-Chair of the ITG Podcast Committee, and serves as a Sheet Music Reviewer for the ITG Journal. An advocate for fostering the next generation of musicians, she previously served as the Graduate Representative for the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Emerging Professionals Committee. She has also been fortunate to have been a conference panelist at the Eastern Division of the National Association for Music Education (E-NAfME) Conference, and the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Cyber Summit Conference.

She has played with The Lex Orchestra, Kentucky Bach Orchestra, and various other groups throughout Kentucky. Her accolades include multiple appearances at the National Trumpet Competition, winning several ITG scholarships, being named as a University of Illinois Research Live! Finalist, and other performance and academic scholarships. As a committed educator, she has presented masterclasses, recitals, and held guest artist residences at universities throughout the country.

She recently completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance and a Graduate Certificate in Baroque Trumpet at the University of Kentucky, where she served as a Teaching Assistant. While in this role, she served as Director of the University of Kentucky Junior Trumpet Institute.

While living in central Illinois, she held the position of Trumpet Instructor at the Illinois Community Music Academy, Monticello Junior and Senior High Schools, and Mahomet-Seymour Junior and Senior High Schools. She earned a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance/Literature at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she studied with Dr. Amy Gilreath. She is a proud graduate of The Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. Her principal teachers include Jason Dovel, Amy Gilreath, Buddy Deshler, Clark Hunt, James Madeja, and Josh Nightingale.
