Kyam McCormack

Dr. Kyam McCormack is Assistant Teaching Professor of Music – Low Brass at Mississippi State University, teaching applied trombone, euphonium, and tuba and coaching chamber ensembles. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in trombone performance from the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, where his doctoral research explored multi-instrumental recording practice across six low brass instruments performed by a single artist. He also holds a Master of Music from UMKC and a Bachelor of Performance from Washburn University with an emphasis in euphonium. An active performer on bass trombone, tenor trombone, euphonium, and tuba, Dr. McCormack has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Topeka Symphony, and Fountain City Brass Band, and served on all three of his instruments with the 312th Army Reserve Band. He co-founded the Ixous Trombone Quartet and won the 2023 National Brass Quintet Competition with the Volker Brass Quintet. His private students have gone on to collegiate music scholarships and competitive drum corps and honor band placements. Dr. McCormack and his wife are thrilled to join the Bulldog family in Starkville, along with their newborn daughter, Abigail.
