Opera in collaboration with MSU Teacher Education and Leadership (TEAL) present two magical children’s operas. Join us for an enchanting double bill of musical storytelling perfect for audiences of all ages. These short operas, filled with humor, heart and imagination, promise an unforgettable experience for children and adults alike. The Old Man Who Loved Cheese is based on the beloved book by Garrison Keillor, this hilarious tale follows Wallace P. Flynn, whose love for the stinkiest cheese turns his world upside down. With cheese police, scientific tests and one man’s struggle to stay true to his “wheys,” this opera explores individuality, family and the joys and perils of standing out. The Hiding Tree is adapted from a Micronesian legend, this moving story of two brave sisters surviving a terrible monster celebrates heroism, sisterhood and the power of love and sacrifice.
