The program opens with Johannes Brahms’ Serenade No. 2 in A major, a warm and lyrical work that reveals the composer’s deep love for songlike melodies and pastoral charm. We proudly spotlight the exceptional talent of Mississippi State University’s Solo Artist Competition Winner(s), offering a captivating display of virtuosic artistry. After intermission, the concert culminates in Mozart’s joyful Missa Brevis in C Major, K. 220 (Sparrow Mass), a sparkling gem of the classical sacred repertoire featuring chorus, orchestra, and the unmistakable fluttering motifs that give the work its nickname.
