Explore the many facets of love performed by cellist Amy Catron with the outstanding MSU piano faculty. Each piece evokes different emotional aspects of the concept of love. De Falla's settings of seven popular folk tunes are a musical journey through Spain, warning girls of staining affairs, illustrating the numbness of grief, and the tenderness of a mother's lullaby to a flamenco-infused lovesickness. This was his final work, which he composed before leaving Paris at the beginning of World War I. Composed while he was interned in a prisoner of war camp during World War II, Messiaen's Praise for the Eternity of Jesus evokes the love and reverence for the everlastingness of the Word. MezzoSoprano Dr. Jeanette Fontaine joins for two songs by Brahms, Assuaged Longing and Sacred Lullaby, illustrating love's joy and yearning. Enjoy an afternoon of cello music to set the stage for Valentine's Day.
