Dr. Nancy Taylor

Currently, in her 12th year of teaching at the University of Texas at El Paso, Dr. Nancy Taylor holds the distinction of breaking the brass ceiling and becoming the first woman in the trumpet section of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in their 197-year history. She earned degrees in Trumpet Performance from Arizona State University, Indiana University, and Texas Tech University, and a Master of Occupational Therapy degree from UTEP.

Taylor serves as principal trumpet of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, co-chair of the International Women's Brass Conference solo competition, and publications editor for the International Trumpet Guild Journal. A devotee of Shires Trumpets, Nancy plays a model 'A' B♭ trumpet, model '4F' C trumpet, and model '9Y' piccolo trumpet.

As a board-certified Occupational Therapist, Taylor specializes in musician’s injuries. She taught at the Conn-Selmer Institute for 8 summers and has presented masterclasses on injury prevention for musicians at the Midwest Band & Orchestra convention, TMEA, PMEA, CASMEA and several universities.
