Sara Miranda is the MSU Symphony and Philarmonia director and a professor of applied violin at the Mississippi State University Department of Music. She also teaches in the Starkville-Oktibbeha Jacket Strings program, an initiative in partnership with MSU.

An active performer and educator, Ms. Miranda has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at many of Costa Rica’s leading music festivals, including the Baroque Music Festival, the Credomatic Music Festival, and the National Festival of Arts. Her performances have taken place in renowned venues such as the Teatro Nacional and Teatro Melico Salazar. She has participated in workshops and masterclasses with internationally acclaimed ensembles and artists, including Christina Zacharias (Tafelmusik), Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Kronos Quartet, and Brooklyn Rider.

In the United States, she has performed as a guest artist with the Tucson Guitar Orchestra and at the North Star Music Festival. Orchestrally, she has held positions with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Heredia and the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Costa Rica, where she served as assistant concertmaster. She has also performed with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.

As a conductor, Miranda has led performances at the North Star Music Festival and served as assistant conductor of the Truman State University Symphony Orchestra. Her teaching experience includes positions with Costa Rica’s National System of Music, as well as appointments at Truman State University and the University of Arizona.

Dr. Miranda earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance with a minor in Cognitive Science from the University of Arizona, where she was a Medici Scholar. She was recently selected as a 2026 Carlos Miguel Prieto Conducting Fellow.
