MSU MUSIC THEORY UPPER DIVISION PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION TO BE OFFERED ON MONDAY, AUGUST 18, 2025
The MSU Department of Music’s Upper Division Proficiency Examination in Music Theory will be offered on Monday, August 18, 2025, starting at 9:00 AM, two days before the start of MSU’s Fall Semester. A requirement for all MSU music degrees, the Music Theory UDPE is equivalent to the final examinations given in Music Theory III and Ear Training III.
Preparatory materials needed for the Theory UDPE’s Musicianship Skills test component will be available upon request starting on July 16, 2025. To request a .pdf of these materials, contact Dr. James Sobaskie at jsobaskie@colled.msstate.edu .
This offering of the Theory UDPE is open to transfer students who have completed at least three semesters of music theory and ear training courses, as well as to current MSU music majors who have satisfactorily-completed at least three semesters of music theory and ear training courses but have not yet fully satisfied the degree requirement.
