The MSU Piano Retreat is a unique opportunity designed for young pianists entering grades 6 through 12, who have committed at least two years to piano study. Set on a vibrant major university campus, it provides students with the chance to explore university facilities, interact with peers who share their passion for music, and enjoy the camaraderie of a like-minded community. This recital offers a welcoming and inclusive platform for young musicians to showcase their talent in a non-competitive environment. Designed to encourage musical growth and confidence, the event allows teachers to register their students to perform a solo piece or a concerto movement. By participating, students can refine their skills and prepare effectively for the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Fall Concerto Competition. Above all, this is a celebration of music and progress, providing a valuable opportunity for students to gain performance experience, receive encouragement, and deepen their love for music. Attendees are encouraged to bring as many guests as they like to amplify the spirit of community and shared appreciation for the art of music.
Professors Olivia Boatman and Rosângela Sebba will present a peer-reviewed recital and a lecture at the College Music Society International Conference and the International Alliance for Women in Music Conference on June 15-23 in Bogotá and Medellin. Prior to that, they will give recitals at various venues in Brazil, performing works by Brazilian composers.
These presentations are made possible by support from Mississippi State University's Department of Music, College of Education, and Office of Research and Economic Development, as well as a mini grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission.
Two piano professors, Dr. Jenna Klein - Assistant Piano Professor, and Dr. Rosangela Sebba, Professor of Piano, presented at the Music Teachers National Association Conference in Reno-Nevada, together with three undergraduate students.
Shona Gordon, a piano student major in Biological Engineering, won first place at the Mississippi Music Teachers Association competition under the Freshman/Sophomore Piano Solo Division.
